A is for ALOO (ALOO (POTATO) JEERA)

A IS FOR ALOO (ALOO (POTATO) JEERA)

Sometimes it is hard to think of ideas of what to cook for dinner. You get into the rut of making routine dishes and often feel uninspired. So in order to force myself to explore the unexplored I decided to embark on A to Z of Indian dishes. Therefor we begin with A! And A is for Aloo.

WHAT YOU NEED: Serves 2
3 medium potato (Boil and cube the potato)
1 tbs oil
2 to 3 green chillies (as always you can add more to give it more oomph)
2 tsp of ginger/garlic paste (You can add less if you dont like strong ginger/garlic flavour)
1 tsp of cumin seeds
pinch of asafeotida
1 tsp coriander powder
1/4 tsp turmeric
1/2 to 1 tsp of red chilli powder
1/2 tsp of mango powder (amchar)
salt to taste

WHAT TO DO:
1. Heat oil and add the cumin seeds. When they sizzle and crack add the asafoetida followed by the ginger/garlic paste and green chillies.
2. Saute for a few mins then add the coriander powder, turmeric, chilli powder and mango powder.
3. Fry the spices for 5 mins be careful not to burn. Add a little water if it starts to burn.
4. Now add the precooked and cubed potatos and salt to taste.
Serve hot with rice or chapati.
