I really do enjoy cooking. Just love reading recipes books am always on the look out for interesting recipe books. Pages and pages full of brightly coloured pictures of tempting dishes whether they be old favourites from my child hood or new and exciting ones yet to try!!!!
Learning spices and techniques does take time and I must admit often does not turn out but practice, practice and a little experimenting goes a long way in learning to perfect dishes and tastes..

Semolina Upma

SEMOLINA UPMA
A light breakfast or early lunch. Healthy, quick and great with tomato or Avakaya pickle. Yum



WHAT YOU NEED:
1 cup semolina
1 medium tomato - diced
1 medium onion - diced
A handful of cashews - broken
1 tsp urad dal
1 tsp chana dal
1 tsp of mustard seeds
1/2 tsp tumeric
1 tsp of ginger/garlic paste
A sprig of curry leaves
1 green chilli- slit
salt to taste

WHAT YOU DO:
1. Dry roast semolina till golden brown - do not burn. Set aside
2. Add 2 tsps of oil to a pan on medium heat and add mustard seeds, chana dal, urid dal and curry leaves. Fry for a couple of mins.
3. Add onion followed by green chilli and ginger/garlic paste. Fry for a couple of mins.
4. Add tumeric and fry for a minute more.
5. Add enough water to cover the bottom of the pan and the contents. Add salt to taste and once boiling add semolina and reduce heat. Keep stirring till all the watyer is absorbed.
6. Semolina Upma is done. Serve hot with tomato or avakaya pickle.
