Sunnundalu (Urad dal laddo)

SUNNUNDULU (URAD DAL LADDO)
A delicious and traditional Andhra sweet popularly served during Srimantham (Baby shower).

WHAT YOU NEED:
2 cups urad dal
3/4 cup ghee melted (look out for my post on how to make ghee at home)
1 1/4 cup white sugar
2 + Cardomon pods (you can add more if you like I usually add around 5 but i am a cardomon fan)

WHAT TO DO:
1. Dry roast the urad dal in a pan over medium heat until golden brown can take up to 30 mins, (IMPORTANT: You have to keep stirring or parts may burn and this ruins the final taste of the sweet laddo.
2. Grind the sugar and the cooled dal into a powder (can be either fine or coarse depending on which way you like it. My family and I like the fine laddo. But you try it out and see what you prefer- any excuse to eat these ladoos I say).
3. Add the crushed cardomon and stir to make sure sugar, urad dal powder and cardomon are well combined.
4. Add the melted ghee and mix with clean hands.
5. Now you alre ready to make laddos. To make it easier either rub some ghee or oil on your hands. (I actually justv spray my hands with spray oil) . Now take lumps of the mixture and roll into your hands till you get nice smooth balls. The size is up to you but I like bite-sized so easy to pop into you mouth!!
Enjoy and Bon Appetit!
